Il profumo del tempo (The smell of time)

Book presentation at
Spazio Ordet, Milano

Curated by
Lorenzo Bendetti, Gregorio Magnani, Annie Ratti

Printed by
Milanoprintmakers

The publication é ora di alzarsi is the result of the XXVII CSAV - Artists' Research Laboratory held at Fondazione Antonio Ratti in Como in July 2023, under the guidance of the Visiting Artist Hilary Lloyd.

The CSAV directors and the Visiting Artist asked the participants to identify the most significant and productive aspects of their experience. The unanimous response singled out the atmosphere of commonality, and the open ended experimentation offered by the flexible structure of the course and by Lloyd’s approach, as the core themes. The books stands as a structural echo of these experiences, presenting them as a rich aesthetic exercise melding pictures and writings with a collective and uninhibited poetic lyricism.

Printed in risograph on a A5 format, the book allows for slippages during the printing process and the limited range of colours specific to the technique.

With contribution by: Madeleine Andersson, Vicente Baeza, Biogal (Joni McLaughlin), Ilinca Fechete, Alex Gibson, Joanne Ho, Ammara Jabbar, Bokyoung Jeong, Jacob Lambrecht, Hilary Lloyd, Gregorio Magnani, Rauwanne Northcott, Gianlorenzo Nardi, Matteo Rattini, Leyre Román, Lorenzo Silvestri, Santiago Torresagasti.

The book launch for é ora di alzarsi is planed both in Milano at Ordet and in London at a later date.

This sculpture

March 2024

Thesis published for my Bachelor’s Degree graduation

The publication is made up of two intertwined halves: a core of 6 works, created in the last four years, and a written piece to be intended as a textual development of the research process that led to the production of the works presented. Without being an explanation of the latter or an attempt to load them with meanings that do not belong to them, the text is given as a parallel accompaniment that unravels the general panorama within which the thought of each work moves, without ever directly touching its core. This sculpture doesn’t exist and the works included in the volume, together with the text that follows, outline a first attempt to investigate a particular moment in visual culture, imagining its outcomes and possible developments.

The default association in collaboration with the Candiani Cultural Center proposes ˈwɪndǝʊ, a project that represents an exploration of the language of exhibition, uniting research by artists and territory. The action consists in generating a new point of exchange to address cultural production outside the usual flow of distribution, allowing new perceptions and aesthetic experiences through the redevelopment of a site.

Most artworks, whether placed in museum spaces, collectors' homes or in offshore storags, are constantly filmed by surveillance cameras. Thousands of monotonous hours of footage are produced continuously every day and night, without any spectators viewing them.
In a context of general proliferation of information and images, works of art are also affected by a general movement of deflagration, which disseminates and multiplies them in the form of photographs, reproductions in catalogues, prints on t-shirts, magnets and cell phone covers . The intensity with which these versions spread constantly tests our perceptive abilities. Limited in the possibility of selecting what to remember and what to forget, we accumulate everything in an endless list whose contents we barely know.
