Computer Generated Images
2020-2021

In recent years Google, Facebook, Instagram and like them most of the digital platforms, have implemented particular content management strategies that have effectively deprived users of the ability to actively decide what to watch. Behind the promise of a unique and personalized experience lied the sneaky attempt to maximize the time spent on the platform by suggesting, in a monotonous loop, engaging content carefully selected based on the user's interests.
The thousands of images of artworks that are shared online dayly, do not escape this mechanism that uses them, just like any other image, as tools to increase the connection time of the users. A neural network, doubling the user's nervous system, has viewed more than eight thousand images of works of art suggested solely by Instagram’s suggestion algorithm.
The images produced, reminiscent of abstract sculptures placed in aseptic white cubes, constitute the concrete manifestation of those standardization processes caused by the choices of algorithms that inevitably end up influencing or distorting the very idea of art in the viewer/user.
